Taking life seriously…

Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyways. — Anonymous

I’m often guilty of taking life too seriously. I usually have a sense of humor that can kick in in the worst circumstances, but  right now I don’t find the humor in much of anything.

I’ve always had the tendency towards a melancholy personality, winter being the roughest time of year for me.

As usual for this time of year, I’ve been struggling with depression. Too much introspection and remembering. Sick children, grumpy people, and my own thoughts and emotions have waylaid me.

I haven’t been posting, because I really have nothing worthwhile to say.

However, spring is coming, and some sunshine will certainly go a long way towards lifting everyone’s spirits.

C’mon spring, hurry up and get here already!

  2. SAD certainly hits me HARD! It’s why we built a conservatory, to get as much sun in the house as possible. Now that Spring has sprung in Texas and the light lasts longer into the evening, I feel my mood lifting with it.

I don’t know if it’s really possible to be too serious about life.

  3. Nor, yep. :)

Michelle, a lot of light is good. In NC it was sunny nearly every day, and it helped a lot. Here in PA it is overcast and dreary most of the winter, and that doesn’t help. We got my son a SAD light to try and help him with it. Must be hereditary. :(

As far as being serious about life, I guess it depends on your definition of serious. Laughing and enjoying life (not sweating the small stuff) while being confident in our faith.

  4. Yes, what is it about winter that causes so much struggle with the mood? Come, on Spring!!

  5. Oh hon; I feel you. I find myself falling into seasonal depression too. I believe it was a harder winter this time around because of my father’s death. Spring/Summer are definitely my favorite seasons. I pray that God would remind you that while seasons change, temperatures rise and fall, and the sun lasts longer on some days than others, He is the same yesterday, today and forever and that He is always present. Love you so much.

  6. I’m looking forward to Winter comming now …

Too much summer can get a little boring … it’s time to fill the woodbox!!!

  7. Did the vitamin D not help? It did me. Nothing miraculous, just not quite the depths of usual winters. Now I have stopped taking it and it seems OK (Daylight Savings Time helped).

  8. epiphany, it has been an extra looong winter here. It came early. Thanks! I’m looking forward to the daffodils coming up! :)

gch, thank you for your comment. It is just a hard year missing our daddys. I don’t know why I thought it would be easier than this.

Mark R! I don’t think that is even funny… summer being boring… it is interesting that we are backwards from you though. We are trading seasons. :)

Jim, I think the vitamin D helped some. I keep forgetting to take it though, and then it doesn’t help at all! Daylight Savings Time is helping. I got hit last week with some things that are wearing on my emotions, so I’m hoping the sunshine will help while I work on the other stuff.

  9. Also, Jim’s comment reminded me – Vitamin B5 is supposed to do WONDERS for the mood. You can get that specific vitamin at most grocery stores.

  10. winter has that effect on me too! i am finding that laughter is the best medicine, my kids have been showing me super silly videos..and it doesn’t take much to crack me up, but it has worked on lifting my spirits!! love you and miss you..we need to make plans for visiting sometime this summer..!!

  11. Thanks, epiphany! I’ll try it!

Darla, I would love to see you this summer! Silly kids sure do have a way of lifting one’s spirits, don’t they. :)
