8/30 UPDATE:

Here is the video of Today Tonight’s(Australian News Show) interview with Mike. Wow.  Apparently this aired the 25th.

and

Nine News story from 8/26

*************************

UPDATE:  The AOG (Australian Christian Churches Assemblies of God) with whom Mike was a pastor have released an official public statement.  Read it HERE.

*************************

According to a person who commented on my blog, Mike was making up his illness. I asked him for some proof, and he passed along a news story. Some of you may remember the videos about Mike’s song, “Healer” and his testimony around it. Here is a news article by “The Australian” discussing this, and another article by an Australian news site. I’m sure we’ll see more news about this in the coming hours and days. Another source for updates and current links is Wikepedia’s page.

A quote from one of the articles states the following:

“This news has come as a great shock to everyone including, it seems, his own wife and family,” Hillsong general manager George Aghajanian said in an email to his congregation yesterday.

“Michael has confirmed that he is not suffering with a terminal illness and is seeking professional help in Adelaide with the support of his family. We are asking our church to pray for the Guglielmucci family during this difficult time.” (The Australian)

Let’s be praying for the Hillsong people, Mike, his family, and all the people who are going to be affected by this news.

  2. Should we pray for him?

Did he not know full well what he was doing!!?

False prophets should not be tollerated and dealt with as according tot he word – read Titus.

We should pray that it does as little damage as possible… as for him.. all we can pray is that God has mercy on him.

    Comment by James — August 20, 2008 @ 8:41 pm

  3. Hmmm… in my Bible there is something about loving my enemies, blessing those who curse me, and PRAYING for those who abuse me. I’m pretty sure that hasn’t been taken out of my Bible yet.

There’s also something called… oh yeah, grace. Thank God Jesus doesn’t have the same mindset you do, or we’d all be lost. Don’t we all know we shouldn’t sin? Or is his sin unforgivable, and your sin is something that can be overlooked or easily forgiven?

No matter what he has done, it isn’t beyond what Christ can forgive. We can pray for his repentance, for his restoration, for his healing, for his relationship with God and his family to be restored… we can ask our Father to walk with him through the valley that his actions have placed him in. Wow, I can think of a LOT of things I can pray for him.

Seriously dude, what you wrote is just scary.

    Comment by HW — August 20, 2008 @ 8:50 pm

  4. scary because you dont want to believe the word of God has a harsh side to it..

thats why so many of the mainstreamest chruchs get caught up with false ppl like this … not saying that its easy to pick.. because it is very deceptive

love your enemies yes.. but enemies arent from within the church..

i never said he couldnt be forgiven… just read what the bible says about the last days and false prophets.. and how many will be blinded..

    Comment by James — August 20, 2008 @ 9:08 pm

  5. Nope. Scary to say that we have nothing to pray for another person who was also created in the image of God, as if God wishes for even this one to be lost.

So we hate and condemn the enemies from inside the church, but only love the ones outside? The wheat and the tares grow together until the harvest. There are enemies within also. And yes, they can be hard to spot. But that doesn’t excuse us from loving them and praying for them when it is discovered. It was from within Jesus’ own disciples that Judas appeared.

It is good this came out in the open because it provides a great opportunity for the Godly sorrow that leads to repentance. I cannot say whether he will accept it or not… but I pray he does.

  9. WE SHOULD FORGIVE, JUST AS GOD FORGIVES US.

    Comment by Jenna — August 20, 2008 @ 11:21 pm

  10. Katelyn.. I am glad you will continue to listen tothe song.. God still uses people regardless and altho Mike lied… the song will still be used as a tool to those that need to be inspired in the area of healing and knowing Jesus as the healer. That part won’t change!

For everyone else.. Prayer is the best thing you can do for Mike and his family.
God is cleaning house everywhere and it should come to no suprise when we hear more exposed in the future.

  11. The Grace of God
If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored every part rejoices with it. (1 Corinth 12:26)
There is a part of us that is suffering right now. Our curiosity can take over and we may want to know the ins and outs of what has happened, but what good does that do. Does knowing that someone has been cut and the extent of their injuries stop the bleeding?
Mike is suffering at the moment. He has lied to us over the years about his Cancer. He has been cut and the extent of his injuries we will probably never even know. It would be naïve to think that you could leave it at that and walk away, but the reality is that this will effect you and me, this will effect the church, and this will effect the way that church is perceived.
At this moment what we think of Mike has changed. Mike’s testimony has changed, what we think about God might have changed, but the fact is that
Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever!! ( Heb 13:8)
We are a body, an army if you like. And the Christian army tends to be the only one that “shoots itself in the foot.” With Mike suffering we will suffer, but
God’s love is still the same.
God’s grace is still the same.
God’s promises are still the same.
We need to pray. Pray for our brother who is hurting, Pray for the ramifications of this. Pray for God to use this and continue to use us. We need to proclaim the things that God has done through Mike not discount them. We need to pray!!
A famous quote:- “If you have made mistakes, even serious ones, there is always another chance for you. What we call failure is not the falling down but the staying down.” (Mary Pickford.)

How great is God that he is there to HELP US UP!! We cannot fail with him.

Out of this story what we should focus on not the details of Mike fall but the story of him getting up.

Only by the Grace of God!!

  12. The whole thing just makes me feel sad… I don’t know his reasons, but Mike is not a bad person, he’s just done the wrong thing…

I’m glad he is no longer slave to the lie he created, and I’m sure he’ll now find out who the people are that truly believe in him… What he’s done is a complete disgrace, and my guess would be that’s exactly what he’s feeling – disgraced. He & his family probably need prayer more now than ever. I can’t even begin to imagine the guilt and shame he’d be feeling… And I’m reminded that guilt and shame are designed to compel us towards repentance and grace… May he find them both.

    Comment by Jade — August 21, 2008 @ 1:00 am

  13. wow. at least he doesn’t have to lie anymore. i can’t imagine every part of his story being fake, at least i hope it wasn’t. but to find out that…wow.

hope he’s going well, he’d be welcome at my place (church) i’m sure.

  14. Nothing wrong with a debate – love and grace was shown in perfection through Christ.. It is situations like this that damage HIS name only.. That’s what disgusts me.. And I’d hope would disgust other Christians as well..

Just think about the wasted hours of prayer for “healing” he asked for. The money he now stole as it were…

I stand corrected – we should pray for him. That the will of God prevails!! y

  15. I am completely shocked about all this.
How is it possible that no-one in his family knew for 2 and a half years that he was faking all of the things that were happenning? eg.Glandular Fever, Blood Clot in the brain, Brain Tumor, Burst Ear Drum and now this bone marrow and blood cancer. How was it possible that he got around his family and got diagnosis for all this?

    From the very shocked leisha

  16. people, people…

…more time spent on the real issue here, praying and leading those who’s faith has been significantly impacted by mike over the years who are now in real danger of throwing the baby out with the bathwater…

while this is all pretty hectic, i reserve comment on what mike’s done/not done, what he has done is finished now and he has God to answer to, not us.

there is something bigger going on here, it would be amiss of christians to waste time debating the ins and outs of what’s happened while there are peoples eternity at stake.

  17. God knows everything – so He knew about Mike’s situation even before he made his decisions, yet God still loves Mike and is there for Mike, regardless!

We can’t judge each other, regardless of what we have done. We need to continue to pray and help each other, regardless of our current situations. Man may make mistakes, but God’s word still stands. God’s mercy and grace and forgiveness is for us all!

  20. Shocked as you all but… my prayers we answered. I prayed for so long for a healing. Forgiveness from our sin is the greatest healing of all. Think about if he was never sick he could have taken the easy way out and said he was healed??? but I’m so thankful that the guy had the guts to humble himself and say the truth and that he stuffed up.

You know growing up I have stuffed up so much, Lust, Pornography, lies, jealousy, the list can go on. Ive sinned and I kept it a secret for almost 2 years. When i owned up to the things I was doing I was so nervous about the shame and what my parents would think. Mike faces the world. The freedom that came out of be honest was amazing. I was healed. unfortunately Mikes deception affected us cause we got ourselves so emotionally involved. And yeah it hurt. But then i think about the way I feel then try compare that to how his dad, mum, brother, sister, close friends and especially his wife would be feeling. We need to pray for them. We will get over it however the process for them will be much more.

So im guessing like me and mike you have stuffed up to. Remember the freedom you felt as well. I thank God for the close friends that never knew i was struggling that prayed for me daily. I’m glad I prayed for Mike. He got his healing

So… Healing from sin is the greatest healing.
And as a friend said to me…
“There’s no point rolling it around in your mouth like a hard boiled gum drop, musing on it, meditating on it, gossiping about it, chawing on it. It’s done and dusted and now it’s back to the drawing board: Personal faith and obedience – and keeping it simple.”

If you read this I hope my view helped

(ps. to Leisha, one lie can turn into a bigger lie. Its crazy to think he could have tricked his family but he did. It still blows me away to think it. and Leisha its ok to feel shocked, hurt and robbed. I don’t know who you are but I’m praying for you.)

  23. It is seriously shaking peoples’ faith, which above all should be the main thing to pray for. As for my own reaction when I found out earlier today, well I felt sick. I felt angry. sad. confused. misled. you name it! So to all of you feeling the same but then maybe feeling guilty for being emotional, don’t. Ofcourse we are going to be emotional from news like this! But I hope that, like myself, you can ask the Lord to help you forgive, and keep your hearts soft.

As for continuing to sing the song, I think you’ll find that even though there would be nothing wrong with singing it, many churches and individuals will find it very difficult to use this as a song of worship to God without instantly linking it to this situation.

  24. This just proves how important it is to keep out eyes on God and not man.
While he was at planetshakers, he had ‘healings’ on stage; now I believe none of them; and I also find it hard to believe none else knew, esp his wife and close friends.

I’m certainly a wiser christian from all this mess.

Hope he gets charged with fraud or something.

    Comment by Natalie — August 21, 2008 @ 6:14 am

  31. I have a question…

Has the song inspired people..? Has the song got an anointing on it..?

Now we all read about what happened, and it is said that he confessed. As we all know, the internet is text, it takes ANYONE to just type up something and post it somewhere. Especially when you wanna do harm to someone. Immediately people believe what they read.

Can someone post actual proof that he “live video” confesses that he did such a deed? I would like to see that… Not some random guy. Look if he did, video tape it, post it, this is the internet after all, so we have Youtube, it started with testimony on video, let it end with it. If he confesses, and it deems as true, and people choose not to forgive, then it is on their conscience, not those you forgave him.

I just find it very interesting that people believe what someone said about someone, in text or other peoples words, rather from the source itself.

In the meantime, Yes Pray for people, pray for loved ones.

Just also interesting that we believe words from a “News Source” that constantly brings us all the bad news.

  32. Sorry one more thing…

Everyone says they felt “misled” “loss of faith”…
The Word of God has this: 1 Cor 10 – 17
    Divisions in the Church

Do we follow Mike..? Do we follow Matt? Do they determine our Faith…? Is Christ divided?

Mike sang of Healing – Which is true, God is THE HEALER, the video that inspired, is true, it’s about God, what he said was true. God Heals. It’s all about God. Not Man.

    Comment by Gavin — August 21, 2008 @ 6:51 am

  33. What did Mike sing about? He sang about Jesus being his Healer. He didn’t sing about his “Cancer”. The lyrics still apply to God being our Healer, being “More than enough for me. Jesus You’re all I need”. Why do we still follow the words of Peter who denied Jesus 3 times? He lied didn’t he? Yet God still used him mightily. What is distracting you? Where is your focus? That, my brother/sister, is a question only you can answer.

  35. Hey…
I dont know the reliability of the sorce or anything, but does it matter. The world will worry its self about Mike and this mess but we are called to stand seperated from the world… We stand for JESUS no matter what…. In this time and age barriers need to be broken, The church needs to become one being that supports each other. As the world changes more and more The Church, God’s Bride must stand stronger than ever! If Mike has lied, then he’s lied, theres nothing we can do to change that, but God can deal with past, we must focus ourselves on the future. As the Church we know that God will take care of us, no matter what our downfalls, but we must be forgiving of others or we will become like the world. Trust God, Let him be your guide…Let peace and Love reign forever and ever… If you want to contact to further discuss or confront me then feel free to visit http://cpazchem.synthasite.com/ Praying you all have a great day, God Bless… Kermit

  36. He’s a false prophet and should be dealt with accordingly. Yes, forgiveness is Godly: but God does not tolerate people who deceive his flock. He hasn’t just messed up. He’s committed fraud, and has sustained a string of deliberate lies over a long period of time. It is absolutely shameful and he has brought the church into disrepute. God will not be mocked.

I haven’t checked on any news this morning. It would be wonderful to find out this was all untrue…. but even if it is all true, my prayer is for his repentance, healing and restoration.

  40. What happened in this situation is sad, and i understand that people are angry and hurt… Iv been thinking about it all day and the one thing i continue to remember is that our god turns the worst of circumstances into good. There has been alot said about the film clips and the song healer and i understand where everyone is coming from.

Having sung this song myself many times in worship at church and conferences, i cant forget how much this song did for my faith. Yes he wrote it out of a false testimony and that is heartbreaking but… those words that he wrote are still true. His situation was fake yes, but the words of that song remain… god holds our every moment, he calms our raging seas… he walks with us through fire. Nothing is impossible for him right? That song is still a beautiful declaration of who our god is. Its still a song of praise.

People all over the world have been touched by this song undoubtedly and yeah its terrible to hear whats happened. Yeah his story had it have been true was inspiring and a beautiful declaration of faith BUT it should be god that touches us hey. That song is still touching it because god can use it for good.

Hope this makes sense… been a bit sick myself.
Keep running after jesus, he is the only one
    that doesnt fail us.

    love

  41. Well the rumours definitely ARE true – there is an official statement on the AOG website from their Vice President Alun Davies at http://www.aog.org.au/Media/NationalExecutiveStatement/tabid/1413/language/en-AU/Default.aspx abd that states the following:

” Representatives of the National Executive recently met with Michael Guglielmucci. At this meeting he read a statement indicating that his claim to have cancer was untrue. His credential with the ACC was immediately suspended.

The National Executive is taking this matter very seriously and is awaiting the results of medical tests before determining the full extent of the discipline that will be imposed upon him. ”

I would just like to say how impressed I am at the followers of this blog for the love and grace they are willing to show. Maybe I am unfair, but my experience is that if this was an American site it would be full of flaming posts of judgement about false prophets and God not being mocked as if He is sitting in Heaven with an Uzi waiting for someone to sin so he can cut them down in a hail of bullets.

God is still God, people. Are we are called to the same things as we were yesterday – love, grace, forgiveness. Let us pray for everyone involved – especially for Mike wife and parents, and that there will be redemption in this for Mike. We know that there will be media teams having a ball at talking this up and many outside the church will feel their scepticism confirmed but let us stick to what we know – loving God and loving people and letting people know about his grace and astonishing. At the end of the day, every one of us “has sinned and fallen short of God’s glorious standard”.

  43. We need to be humble and seek Gods insight in all we do. What has happened shows mans betrayal to God and us, but God has allowed it to happen and God has allowed it to be revealed at this time, we need to seek God for his wisdom and what we need to learn from this.
Some things that stand out for me are that we may need to stop glorifying man on the stage, stop putting man in the spot light, but learn to be more humble.
We need to learn to humbly seek and serve our father in heaven through the blood of Jesus Christ.
This is some chapters in scripture I have been lead to:
    Ecclesiastes 3, Galatians 6, Philippians 2, Hebrews 11

  44. I was sick in the stomach when I heard about Mike and I had to ask myself why he felt the need to do it. I recently left one of the churches whose reputation will be damaged by his actions. This church highly values worldly achievements, fame and success. Perhaps he felt pressure in this culture of excellence to do something which would make him feel like he fit the bill. Perhaps he justified it to himself that his lies would further the cause of the church? To me the limelight, fame, money, glory, stadiums, expensive conferences, aria chart that certain churches value SO much does not always glorify God but instead glorified man (or the church brand). It is very tempting for preachers/worship leaders to fulfill their own desires through the church. I have seen it many times before. I have been around these circles for a long time (i went to youth camps which Mike attended) and i think the church needs to really question whether we should make pop stars of our worship leaders. We are doing them a disservice putting them in such positions of temptation. I think when churches begin to value image, talent, entertainment and charisma rather than the word of God, character, and integrity we need to worry. We need to get back to what God sees as excellent and not what people do. I don’t know if i am the only person out there who is worried by the culture of these type of churches. Is anyone else??

  45. Good comment Gen! Although I am uncomfortable with pointing the finger at any particular ministry or movement, because I don’t know what truly motivates them, I think you are addressing the real core issue here – what expectations do we as a Western Christian church have of people / ministries for them to be seen as successful, … sorry ‘fruitful’?

  46. I cant believe that such a great man of God could lie and decieve the world for money. He used Gods name for his own glory and for money. Yes we forgive but there is always a punishment for our actions i just pray that God doesnt put on him what he claimed to have had. God isn’t there to be used and abused he is there as our loving God and not for our own riches. I just hate how people can decieve others in Gods name. Mike was a role model to so many and now they are just burnt from his actions. I just pray that the lives that were brought to God from his testimony don’t turn away from God because of Mikes failure.

    Comment by Melissa — August 21, 2008 @ 6:30 pm

  47. Gem, I think that is a really valid point. It seems to be something we all do in some form or another, and it is something I’m concerned about in any church. When men are lifted into a place where we are devastated and our faith is shaken when they mess up, then we have them in the wrong place of importance in our lives. Only Jesus is perfect, and any man we expect perfection from will fail us.

Remember who our Savior is, and it isn’t our pastor or worship leader or apostle, etc… it is Christ alone.

Choose wisely how you respond… how would you want God to respond to you if it were you in this place? Oh wait… you are. Maybe not as publicly, but you also have sinned.

Check out the following scripture if you don’t believe that we ALL need grace…

    1 John 1:8-10

If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.

  49. ella, I’m not so sure about the claims that Mike is a false prophet… the fact is that he has been presenting a Godly truth, but using a lie to attach a certain level of emotion to the truth that God is a healer. Examine the words of the song:

    You’re my Healer

    You hold my every moment
    You calm my raging seas
You walk with me through fire
    And heal all my disease

    I trust in You
    I trust in You

    I believe You’re my Healer
I believe You are all I need
    I believe You’re my Portion
I believe You’re more than enough for me
    Jesus You’re all I need

    My Healer, You’re my Healer

    Nothing is impossible for You
    Nothing is impossible for You
    Nothing is impossible for You
You hold my world in Your hands

    I have been encouraged by Philippians 1:15 – 17:

“It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. The latter do so in love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains. But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.

  50. HW,

    You are on the money!!!
The truth is that it is Jesus who is our hope, Jesus who saves, Jesus who is perfect – not any man – we are merely privileged to partner with Him & be called Children of God.

It may seem incredible that any man who knows our God, could stand in worship at His throne, whilst living a lie – but I bet it is more common than we think – Mike would not be alone!!!

Unfortunately what has happened probably began a long time ago – when man forgets the fear of the Lord, he loses touch with God’s Holiness and begins to take for granted the One that He serves

    Solomon wrote
    “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”
    (Prov. 9:10)

When we cease to fear God, our understanding is blurred and foolishness replaces wisdom.

Mike was (& is) an incredibly gifted man (& God’s gifts are not revoked) We can be disappointed, angry, ashamed or even concerned at what people in the world will say to us, but it is Jesus’ name he has smeared, and that is now between Mike & God!

Our role now is to pray for the fear of God to once again be uppermost in his life and for Mike to be restored!!! Let us all pray for Mike and his family & see what our loving, forgiving and faithful Lord will do and may His Holiness become once again a fundamental teaching within God’s church!

  52. ok im all for forgiveness but how about he actually receives the punishment for his actions.

If we all just go forgiving everyone and not lettin them receive the punishment how will they ever learn.

Im not sayin everyone go and bash him with our words or physically but we can be hurt and cut about what he has done to so many of us.

He was one of my heroes and wen i heard about it, it cut me deep. He was mmy inspiration to know he went through all that for God and to know it was all fake makes me so angry.

God shouldnt be played with like that he should be feared and if Mike could do dat and not fear the punishment then he musn’t really know God.

It was all Fake and a Lie and im sick of all these fake christians wen r we going to get a real bunch of christians step up for the one they truly believe in not for fame or money but to see lives saved for God.

  53. Melissa, many people are hurt. I’m so sorry you are hurting. The hurt and anger are normal responses. Work through it with the Lord, and maybe with a pastor or counselor that you trust.

Maybe you can be one of those “real” Christians who will step up to see lives saved for God! :)

  54. Hi Melissa

its normal to be hurting, but we need to put what Mike has done in perspective – yes you may have been deceived – but in an eternal sense, he didn’t do anything to you – he did this to Jesus. Punishment / redemption and judgement are His business!
I’m sure there will be consequences lawfully – especially if there has been actual fraud committed here – and the church has done the right thing exposing it & directing this issue to the police – and due process will take place.

This is a great reminder to all, that our trust should never be in man – but in God alone and His unerring Word – that’s why most of my heroes in the faith have run their race – and are in glory!!!

I pray you find peace in this – for all of us have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God – that’s why a personal relationship with Jesus – )not events, conferences, songs or any one man’s ministry) – is so important

God bless you & comfort you!

I am sure that he will restore his relationship with those he loves and those( Particularly God)that love him.

I agree, the punishment for sin is death but it’s what michael chooses to do at the end of the day that will determine the outcome of his eternal life

Nobody gets away with anything just because we forgive them. They don’t get off of God’s hook unless there is genuine repentance. We can trust God to handle it and let it go.

  83. Melissa,

First of all the church is not all about money, the church is about its people.

For example if you actually attend a hillsong service you will see that they dont force you to give in fact that encourage you give only if you have a cheerful heart and they show what they will be using the money for.

If you dont believe me you cna log on to varius church websites eg hillsong church have audited financials by kpmg and have been reviewed by by regulatory authorities. eg APRA.

Money in itself is not bad, its what people use money for eg lots of churches that make what people claim as “big money” invest that money into third world countries, offer programs that help teens, abused, and homeless a chance at a half decent life and are open all hours of the night to help people from issues such as suicide, depression etc.

Yes Mike’s actions were terrible and damaging but at the end of the day we are not in judgement seat. I am reminded of when Jesus asked us to take the plank out of our own eye or the parrable when he asked the pharisees whoever is without sin or blame to throw the first stone at the prostitute???? What was the answer of Jesus “Neither do I condemn you”

Mike Gugliemucci has discredited his father’s ministry and has caused heartache to his own family.

Seriously if his family knew do you think it would have played on for so long (Lies get exposed!!!) No one in their right mind would go through with this as its bad publicity for their ministry or works

  84. wow…great conversation going on here…
pretty clear that there is lots of healing that needs to happen.

So i think something to remember is that it is God who will not only judge, but punish as He sees fit. It’s not for us to judge, or hold someone in judgment. judgment and punishment makes our flesh feel good…but it’s spoil to the spirit. it’s not something we need or should be dwelling on…remember? all that is pure and good..think on these things.

  85. Let’s look beyond the sin.
Yes, we all have choices to make, and some turn out to be the wrong choices, but GOD will never give up on or stop loving us – even Mike!
Mike and the band’s acheivement of getting a song about Jesus on the ARIA charts is all for God’s glory. God’s hand is in ALL things – especially this miracle. Just think how many seeds are being planted when this is played on secular radio!
God used him and so did temptation, which got the better of him – happens to us all…
It’s awesome to see him confess his sin – to the world.
I pray that the ACC does not discipline him any further. He has confessed and they should let GOD do the rest.

Romans 8:28 – And we know that all things work together for good to those who love GOD, to those who are called according to HIS purpose.

Let’s pray for Mike and his family, through this hard time of TRUTH being revealed in there lives. May our Lord Jesus continue to be a light to his path.

    Your’s in His service,
    Lara

For all those who commented regarding the concern of our churches lifting up / glorifying man and his talents over God, I encourage you to get a copy of a powerful song by Jason Upton, called ‘Dying Star’. It talks all about it, it’s quite scary but worth listening to! And I totally agree that an appropriate action needs to be taken for this kind of deception, it’s at an international level people! This is huge, let’s not downplay it but let’s not judge either.

  89. I knew Michael from my school days. He was very popular back then, and probably still is. My church days are over, so I really have no direct involvement in this saga. However I do have a few comments to make. Firstly, I am unsure what caused Michael to start the lies. Was it a small lie, that grew into a bigger one? Did he then get himself in a situation where he could no longer tell the truth because he had gone too far? Did he take advantage of the lie by using it to preach?
More importantly, I would like to comment on these types of churches and how innocent people may be effected. A church has a responsibility to be steady. The Bible talks about Christians being founded on solid foundation…on the rock so to speak. However, many churches today are based on popularity. Based on jumping and shouting. Based on the emotion of feeling Jesus and the holy Spirit. Is there a place for this…..I am not sure I should be able to judge this, but I think there is one thing missing in all of this. Truth and honesty. Jesus and his disciples were servants of God. Humility was their most important asset that they could give to the people. A lot of churches are more caught up in the new spiritual movements, definitely caught up in having the best and flashy music, and forget to give the people what they really need. Many pastors drive flashy cars, live in exotic houses, and due to their lifestyles probably don’t work as hard as many in the congregation. Is this wrong? I am not sure. I would have thought that a servant of God would not be into material things, but hey I never wrote the Bible so what should I know?
What Michael did inspired people. His own deception brought people closer to God…so we are lead to believe. How can that be? The reason it is, is because the congregation are too involved in the emotional hype of the Church to see what is real and what is not. In my opinion this is a very dangerous game. When the emotion runs out what are you left to stand on? Emotion and feeling is NOT a solid foundation. If we could lose the hype and just get back to basics, then I believe Christians will be better off. However the arguement goes like this, if you lose the flashy part of the Church, it will then become boring and the number of attendences drop. It kind of makes you wonder what is real and what is not. My opinion only, and I don’t mean to offend anybody.

  90. I think most of our reactions are first anger, but years ago I learnt a powerful lesson, I would always point my finger at certain high profile christians that would fall and say I would never do that- then circumstances in my life made me do some things that I am ashamed of- Let’s just really pray for the whole Gugliemucci family as in less than a month we will have put this behind us while the Gugliemucci family have to live and work through this now so they need our prayers even more so.

    Comment by Leverne — August 22, 2008 @ 1:44 am

  91. Maybe in church lately we’ve been putting our focus on other human beings we can see and hear here on earth instead of fixing our eyes on Jesus – HE is the author and perfector of our faith. He’s in the business of making us all perfect like Him, and He will use this very sad situation and turn it to good – Nothing is impossible to Him after all!
We are not responsible for another’s actions; our responsibility is to react in a Christ-like way – so hatred and harsh words should not be part of it – humility, gentleness, patience, forgiveness, peace.

    Comment by Raerae — August 22, 2008 @ 3:30 am

  92. Melissa, please don’t let the actions of one man throw any faith that you have. Anger is not going to change the situation and if you feel that strongly about what has happened then I think that you need to look inside yourself for why. If you are not happy with the church, find another one, the thing is that faith and religion come from inside you and not from where the ‘cool kids go’. If it is the old fashioned church that you need, go to one, see how you feel, but remember that the church does not rule your faith or your trust in God, you do! And one man, no matter how horrible his actions appear should come between you and your faith. xo

  93. Hey,
This is for whoever. I’m not having a go at you, nor am I making fun. I’m just asking what everyone else isn’t. An expressing my opinion as I believe that’s what open blogs are for.
How, just HOW could 1 one pull this off? How? I’m not here questioning the authenticty of the church or of Jesus for that matter. This is in relation to Pastor Mike (or should I say ex-pastor) story.
Apparently as released by the media and the email from planentshakers to it’s members. His wife and family were not aware. Now I would understand and believe that if thise fraud had only been for a month. But it was TWO YEARS. Is anyone even considering how this was pulled off? The medical documents? What about when his friends wanted to visit him in hospital. OR his wife needed to be by his bedside during treatment, or perhaps drive him to the hospital. How, i ask how is it possible. FOR TWO YEARS! Where would he have gotten access to the oxygen mask that he used on stage to sing his song ‘Healer’. Do you see that it is without question that someone if not many also had to be in on it. It is not possible for this to go unoticed. Big allegation I am about to make, I am in no way saying it’s true, but if one so highly respected member and leader of planetshakers can do it, so can they all. One man taking the wrap so the church itself wouldn’t fall. This action by whomever was behind it has lost the trust the Christian Church had more many believers, I’m not saying all but many. Please don’t delete this or fight with me that’s not what i look for, i look for an explanation, an opinion, anything?

This is why I believe I have no reason to judge Mike. Who the hell am I to judge? I will let God judge Mike and I will let God judge me.
This all being said, I still have regular philosophical discussions with my many Christian friends. In a weird way, I have probably got more out of understanding what Christ was about outside the Church, than I did inside it.

23 but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks F2 foolishness, 24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. 26 For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. 27 But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; 28 and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, 29 that no flesh should glory in His presence. 30 But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God–and righteousness and sanctification and redemption– 31 that, as it is written, “He who glories, let him glory in the Lord.” F3

GOD IS DOING A NEW THING. I pray that you won’t miss it while you all get caught up in this deception. For who knows what may be lurking around the corner for YOU? So best to keep your eyes focused & ears opened towards jesus, stay in obedience to his word. Make room to hear his voice, know what God is saying to you right now for your own life & your church. Oh yeah, & keep worshipping, guard your heart too. THE DEVIL & DEMONS HATE IT WHEN WE WORSHIP. I pray that you won’t miss out on your own miracle, for who knows how the Lord of Hosts wants to visit you?…ANYWHERE…ANYTIME….ANYHOW for such a time as this. Let the fire of God begin in Jesus Name.

Pastor Mike had a lot of good in him as well. I do believe he had a heart for youths and God did use him to bless many. He was a willing vessel, not a perfectone but still an instrument God used.

Lets celebrate the gift God gave Pastor Mike to do what he did and praise God for the lives that was touched and blessed by Pastpr Mikes ministry. This is the past.

The present we are faced with a sin. We cannot deny this fact and how do we deal with this?

We pray for Pastor Mike for good men of God to be near him and help him out of this mess. To be able to come back to Him in full repentance and also restoration.

The last thing we want to do not is to tear him apart further and also the good his ministry has achieved. Lets not throw the baby out withthe bath water.

Pray for the youth ministry under Pastor Mike to be able to rise up stronger than before and learn from this that it is God we should be focused on and not Men for all men are fallable.

I hate to say this but lets not display the Pharisees in us and lets be more of Jesus in this situation.

  109. Hi all,

I’m not sure whether you guys realize it, or rather you would think that I’m being conventional/conservative in my thinking. I have felt that these mega churches has forgotten to communicate with God but rather put on a stage show most of the time. As Christians our top priority, in fact our only priority is communication with God in both directions.

If Hillsong or Planet Shakers “Leaders” are trully seeking God’s direction in every way, God would have spoken very very loudly to these “Leaders” of these lies. But from what I perceive…they are just “Blind Leaders” who rely solely on human wisdom, plans, visions.

The time of Elijah is repeating itself. The truth, true & God fearing prophets are rejected for they speak the truth. We only want to hear the sweet & “encouraging” messages of the false prophetes. Slowly they are poisoning our minds.

As the “spiritual Jews” who we are, we need to learn from the mistakes of the past & turn back to God. Never put our “Leaders, Pastors, Elders etc” as our Altar, because God don’t need them to speak to you and me. Because if you do, when they fall, we fall too. All of us are of Royal Priesthood, are we doing what God wants us to do? What is God telling us?

It is time to turn the ship around, instead of focusing on creating bigger churches, nicer songs, “encouraging” messages…spend all these times reading the word of God. Meditate upon it day and night…and listen closely to God himself.

    May God Bless You All!

  110. Daniel,

God’s ways are so much higher than ours. Do you think if God really didn’t want Mike to sing that song he would have? Don’t you think God was capable of speaking to the Hillsong Music leadership through a dream, a vision or an audible voice?

God allowed it to happen. It wasn’t Hillsong’s fault. That’s not to say that in the future they won’t be more careful about peoples’ testimonies.

God is huge. He made the universe. He knows the number of hairs on everyone’s head on the entire earth. When we worship Him we usher in His holy presence. Hillsong is arguably one of the most influential pillars of the last days church. To use a WW2 analogy, perhaps they’re like Patton’s 3rd Army, cutting through the forces of darkness.

So what does it say about Him that he would allow such a falsehood to take front and center of one of His primary instruments?

Personally, I don’t feel qualified to speak for God. But I know that he requires His Church, His Bride to be spotless. And the only way that happens is when we spend time with Him and keep our lamps full of Oil.

When we do that, we are continually reminded of our frailty as humans and our dependence on God for His grace and mercy. Having received mercy, we look to extend it to others.

When we don’t spend time with Him, we get religious and we try to serve Christ in our own strength. We tend to look to others with judgement.

Those that are spiritual will pray for Mike and Hillsong. Those that are carnal will tend to judge them.

    This is our church.

    This is our God.
